The trial of my forfeiture

A FREE VERSE POEM

I cut myself to let love seep out of my body

To let understanding soften my judgmental edges

To let beauty kindle my vision

To let care and kindness foster my relationships

To let myself do justice as a daughter, sister and friend.

But as I watch myself soak the floor red the mirage of novelty is lifted

Its not my altruism bleeding out but my naive forfeiture

What was I thinking, I’ll never be enough to empty the oceans of expectation.

It is not even a sacrifice anymore rather just an escape from this vainly disposition.
